Events That Past

The quarter is close to ending but we still have ONE more event to give you all.

So, you like having an MSA?
You like the idea of a Muslim club that represents
you and honors your occasions as a Muslim?

Aah huhh, well then..

Come join us...

Thursday March 3rd
Nestor Hall Seminar
Room D

12pm - 1pm

Come and learn more about the MSA’s past, present and

Future.

Refreshments provided, so all you have to bring is your affection for your MSA. The MSA that is there for you as long as you allow it to be…

El-hamdu-lel-lah this went well. The main message from this event was that if we the Muslim Students don't do our part in being active to ensure that the MSA stays alive, then we can't expect it to last MUCH LONGER!!!! So for those that see the benefits of having an MSA, this is a call out to YOU to come JOIN the MSA and help in whatever way you can to keep it moving forward. Thank you..

Logo Contest

The logo contest is OVER

We are sorry to say that we had no participation for this contest. For record keeping, we're keeping the details of what the contest was and the rules for it. See below:

Below are the ironed out rules for the contest, which we don't anticipate will change.

1.  The logo will need to include the words "Columbus State" and "MSA" or "Muslim Student Association".

2.  It also needs to have some sort of design. The logo can not be only words.

3.   The design must be original. It can not be taken from any other association's design.

4.   It has to be computer designed (i.e. using programs such as Paint, Photo Editor, or any other you may prefer).

5.   Ensure that it is in JPEG format. Other formats may be taken into consideration, but JPEG is DEFINITELY preferred. Please ensure that it is clearly designed so that we may enlarge it, make it transparent and so on.

Contestants may submit their designs starting as early as the first week of the winter quarter and have until the seventh week; we are starting the sixth week and the Deadline is the end of the seventh week (which is 02/19/05). On the eighth week, voting will be done to determine which design will be our new logo. Details on how voting will take place will be determined when the deadline for submissions nears.

If you think you have what it takes to make a new logo for us and win our praiseworthy first prize award then don't delay. The sooner you start the more time you give yourself to prefect your design. The PRIZE will have a value of at least $100 that can be used anywhere American Express is accepted. The deadline is here. How much participation and how successful this contest goes will determine whether or not we hold more contests like this; so PLEASE TAKE PART, at the least you'll have fun and at most you'll WIN TOO!!!!

Past Quarters Events

Spring Quarter:

1.  Bi-weekly discussions.

This series of events went very well in the Spring el-hamdu-lel-lah. We hope to be able to hold it again some more and hope that the participation only grows more and more.

2.  Elections.

In the Spring quarter were supposed to be the elections for the coming year. However, initially we only had a candidate per position so we didn't have any need for elections. However, we may not have all the positions filled so depending on how many students express interest, elections may be held in the Summer quarter.

Winter Quarter:

1.  Bi-weekly discussions.
We've mentioned this before and the idea here is to have students get together and discuss different topics. Topics will range from religion to everyday issues like the struggles of organizing time, or different school experiences and so on. The topics will be posted here so that those interested can prepare their thoughts and experiences to share with the group, and to let others that may be interested to just come and listen know what to expect.

We are sad to say that so far we've had zero participation for this event. We are not giving up though. We're going to keep on setting the bi-weekly get-togethers up and insha'allah participation will pick up.

2.  Arabic tutoring.
This was/is for those interested to get assistance with learning Arabic. Check Out the Arabic Tutoring section in What's New. For those interested in Koran tutoring, please contact us to learn more.

El-hamdu-lel-lah we've had steady participation but not much. Insha'allah more will take advantage of the great tutoring that we're lucky to be able to provide.

3.  False Information corrections.
We've mentioned this before also. In the Sociology book, publishers have written false information about Islam and Muslims. In the Winter Quarter we hope to get the petition completed and signed by all that agree that the information needs corrected. Islam and Muslims are so misunderstood due to various reasons that we can't afford to have school text books teaching wrong things about them. We hope to also get feedback from all students that find errors in other books so that we can bring attention to those books as well. Please stay tuned for updates on when the petition will be completed so that you can support this good cause by simply signing. The more signatures we can get on the petition the more seriously it will be taken. Don't worry about signing because all the signature will mean is that you agree that false information about Islam and Muslims should be removed. To give all more insight into the false information we're talking about, we'll soon post scanned copies of pages in question.

Unfortunately we've been busy with other events and tasks that we didn't get to this goal yet. Well add more updates about this when new updates are available.

4.  Arabic Tutoring.
Below is what we had for the Winter quarter.

FREETUTORING

The MSA is proud to bring to you FREE Arabic tutoring sessions that will be held twice a week, during winter quarter at CSCC.

Sessions will be
from 1:30 to 3:00 pm on
Mondays in Nestor Hall room 324
Tuesdays in Nestor Hall room 219

If you are interested, sign up today! Email us at msa@cscc.edu and provide your first and last name.

Questions? Feel free to contact us at the same email above.

Last quarter we had a teacher come in to give tutoring lessons twice a week. Unfortunately we didn't have too many students taking advantage of the tutoring, so we're not sure if we will bring back the teacher this quarter too. For those still interested in Arabic or Koran tutoring, please contact us to and we'll work something out with you.

We also had an event in honor of the Hajj season that visited us. We took a couple of pictures in that event and the pictures are available in the Photo Gallery.
