We are the Muslim Student Association of Columbus State Community
College.
We are made up of officers and active members.
We are a
new MSA that is growing.
As you may have found under What's New, we have a
lot to look forward to in the coming quarter; this means that now is a great
time for those interested to join to contact us to get more information on how that can be done.
Our goals consist of four basics as you'll find listed below.

CONSTITUTION OF THE MUSLIM STUDENT ASSOCIATION
Article I
Name of Organization
Section 1:
The name of this organization shall be Muslim Student Association, hereafter
referred to as MSA.
Article II
Purpose of Organization
Section 1:
The purpose of the organization shall include, but not be limited to, the
following:
1)
Further the understanding of Islam
on campus.
2)
Strengthen the fraternal bonds
between Muslims and their colleagues on campus.
3)
Conduct educational and social
activities on campus.
4)
Improve communication and
coordination among members.
5)
Foster a spirit of cooperation,
unity and a common sense of purpose among MSA and other organizations.
Article III
Membership
Section 1:
Applying for membership shall consist of the following:
1)
Completing a membership
application form then submitting it to the Secretary.
Note: This
form can be found on MSA’s website or with MSA’s Secretary.
This form will require minimal information to ensure that applicants’ privacy
is not violated.
2)
Membership applications may be
submitted throughout the year.
3)
Membership shall be activated
within two business days of submitting an application.
Section 2:
Types of membership shall be as follows:
1)
There will only be one type of
membership. It will be a standard MSA membership.
Requirements:
a)
Completed application
b)
Attending meetings
c)
Assisting the MSA when possible and
applicable with the various events
Benefits:
a)
Receive and reply to MSA e-mails
b)
Direct communication with the
officers, which grants the following two benefits:
1)
Direct access to present ideas
2)
Direct access to voice opinions on
the different matters of the MSA, which will have a noticeable level
of influence in the final decision making
c)
Eligibility to run for an officer
position
Section 3:
Membership may be canceled at anytime by simply contacting the Secretary, at
which point the member will be removed from the mailing list and will not be
expected to attend meetings.
Article IV
Officers of the Executive Committee
Section 1:
The officers of the Executive Committee shall be the President, Vice-President,
Secretary, Treasurer and coordinator.
Section 2:
Term of office shall be one school year, beginning in the Fall quarter and
ending the end of the Summer quarter.
Section 3:
The President’s duties shall be:
1)
Overlook everything.
2)
Ensure that goals are not standing
still or regressing.
3)
Interface and establish good
relationships with other organizations.
4)
Assign new tasks.
Section 4:
The Vice-President’s duties shall be:
1)
Fill in for President.
2)
Ensure a plan of action and/or
resolution for any obstacles along the way of a given task.
3)
Observe and work on making
available any needs for the association.
Section 5:
The Secretary’s duties shall be:
1)
Maintain and make available up to
date contact information – this includes officers and other essential
contacts.
2)
Assist the President in interacting
with other organizations.
3)
Maintain and is responsible for
obtaining most of da-wa material.
Section 6:
The Treasurer’s duties shall be:
1)
Keep track of and has available the
financial records.
2)
Make and keep the group aware of
our financial status.
3)
Work on obtaining ideas of better
ways to utilize our proceeds.
Section 7:
The Coordinator’s duties shall be:
1)
Establish a clear outline of needed
details for a given task small or big.
2)
Assures the details of a given task
are being carried out by the proper individual.
3)
Coordinate and plan out all MSA
events.
Section 8:
With taking into consideration the feedback of the members, the final decision
making will be exclusively done by the MSA officers through voting.
Article V
Election
Section 1:
The election process shall start during the spring quarter.
Section 2:
The election process shall consist of the following steps:
1)
Establishing nominees within the
first two weeks of the spring quarter.
2)
Allowing nominees a month to
demonstrate to voters why they should be voted for.
3)
Reserving the seventh week of the
spring quarter to be the period for voting.
4)
Announcing the new officers on the
eighth week of the quarter’s three month period, after having tallied up
the number of
votes each nominee has earned.
Section 3:
Being a member for at least one-quarter grants the eligibility to run for an
officer position. Furthermore, the final list of nominees must be
approved by the majority of the current officers. This is to ensure reliability
in the selection of candidates, especially in times when exceptions need to be
considered.
Article VI
Meetings
Section 1:
The meetings shall be as follows:
1)
There will be a weekly meeting.
2)
Members will be expected to attend
at least two a month.
Section 2:
In the meetings (and when appropriate through e-mails) the MSA members will
narrow down their options on any given issue by voting to see which option gets
the most votes. Moreover, the results of such voting will be reviewed and taken
into serious consideration by the MSA officers who will make the final decision.
Article VII
Financial Provisions
Section 1:
Funding for the organization shall consist of fundraising activities, donations,
etc….
Section 2:
The organization shall have the right to implement membership fees as the
officers and members may see fit. Such membership fee will be quarterly and
shall be within reason. Suggested membership fee is $10.
Article VIII
Non-discriminatory Clause
Section 1:
The MSA shall not discriminate on any basis some of which include, but not limit
to, race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, age, and disability, in the
selection of its members or in its programs unless federal or state laws allow
for such exceptions.
Article IX
Enacting Clause
Section 1:
This Constitution shall become effective upon approval of registration by the
Director of Student Activities and Athletics.
Section 2:
The MSA shall maintain a list of current officers, their electronic mailing
addresses, the name of the Campus Advisor, and the most recently amended
constitution with the Student Activities Office.
